Affirming Healthcare In Action — New Orleans, LA

Dr. Lulu’s Angels Haven, Inc. was honored to participate in the 2026 Spring Conference of the Black Psychiatrists of America in New Orleans, where Dr. Lulu co-presented a session titled “Ancestral Echoes Across Borders: Queer Immigrant Experiences, Complex Trauma, Cultural Humility, and Neurobiological Considerations in Psychiatric Care.”

This interactive session brought together mental health professionals to explore the intersection of identity, culture, and care—centering the lived experiences of queer and immigrant communities. Through storytelling, reflection, and dialogue, participants examined gaps in formal training and engaged in practical, solution-oriented strategies to provide more affirming, culturally humble care. The session emphasized that affirming care is not about special treatment, but about correct care—grounded in respect, curiosity, and partnership with patients.

Attendees actively participated in discussion and identified actionable steps to improve communication, reduce harm, and build trust in clinical settings. This engagement reflects our ongoing commitment to community education, bridging gaps between providers and marginalized communities, and advancing affirming, bias-informed care across systems.
